Bencore · Composite panels
Ecoben recycled cardboard panel
A 100 percent recycled cardboard honeycomb under clear skins. The warm, natural Bencore.
Ecoben is the Bencore panel for projects that have to show their sustainability rather than state it. The core is a honeycomb made entirely of recycled cardboard, in the natural brown of the paper, and it is sealed under clear acrylic or PETG skins so the texture is on show and protected at the same time. In the Green Cast build the skin itself is Green Cast acrylic, the lower impact cast sheet Bencore has moved to for its clear panels.
It is a warm, matte, tactile panel that sits well with timber, and it is the one to reach for when the brief is natural materials in a modern frame.

Why specify it
What Ecoben does well
100 percent recycled core
The honeycomb is made from recycled cardboard, and Bencore lists it among the products made with wholly recycled material.
Two skin options
Ecoben Wave in acrylic or PETG, 19 to 34 mm; Ecoben Green Cast in Green Cast acrylic, 21 or 34 mm.
Light, warm and matte
Cardboard diffuses light softly; the panel reads as a natural material rather than a plastic.
Part of Bencore's three Rs
Recollect, recycle, reuse: Bencore takes panels back at the end of their life and uses pre- and post-consumer material in new ones.

Questions
Ecoben questions
Is the cardboard core strong enough for a wall?
Yes. Like every honeycomb, the core's job is to hold the two skins apart and transfer shear between them, and the stiffness comes from the sandwich. Ecoben is used in the Meli and Koros door systems and as full height wall panels.
Can Ecoben be backlit?
It transmits light softly through the paper, so it glows warm rather than bright. For a strongly backlit wall Lightben or Starlight is the better choice; for a lit niche or a counter, Ecoben works well.
What does Green Cast mean?
Green Cast is the lower impact cast acrylic Bencore has adopted for the skins of its transparent panels. On Ecoben Green Cast both the core and the skins are made with recycled or recovered material.
