Colored Acrylic Sheets - Canada

Why Coloured Cast Acrylic?

Every colour we stock is cell-cast PMMA - poured and cured slowly for even pigmentation, a harder surface, and tight thickness tolerance. That consistency is what fabricators need for multi-unit signage and multi-store rollouts, where colour has to match from the first sheet to the last.

  • 40+ colours across solid, black, white, pastel, and mirror finishes
  • Fully opaque, batch-consistent pigment for multi-unit orders
  • Cast PMMA - 95°C heat deflection, thermoformable 140-180°C
  • Laser-cuts to a polished edge; engraves to a lighter sub-surface
  • Thicknesses from 1mm to 18mm on 3×6, 4×6, and 4×8 ft sheets
  • Gloss both sides, masked - matte options in black and pastel

Which Colour Finish Do You Need?

Match the finish to the job. All are cast acrylic and fabricate the same way - the difference is the look, the thickness range, and the price point.

Which Thickness Do You Need?

Solid colours run 2.8mm to 5.5mm; black extends to 18mm for structural work. Match the gauge to the job - thin sheets for laser-cut overlays and sign faces, thicker sheets for rigid display and architectural panels.

Coloured Acrylic Applications in Canada

Signage & Graphics

Laser-Cut Signage & Wayfinding

Coloured cast acrylic is a primary material for laser-cut flat-cut letters, logo panels, and colour-coded wayfinding signs. The fully opaque pigmentation produces vivid, consistent colour across the cut face and surface - used by sign shops across Canada for interior and exterior signage applications.

Retail & Visual Merchandising

Retail Display & Point-of-Sale Fixtures

Brand-matched coloured acrylic is used by visual merchandisers to create display risers, shelf dividers, and brand-colour fixtures. With over 20 colour codes available, fabricators can match brand colour specifications closely for consistent multi-store rollouts.

Education & Events

Educational & Exhibition Displays

Museum display fabricators, trade show display builders, and educational institutions use coloured acrylic for panel backgrounds, label holders, and information display structures where consistent, vivid colour is needed for visual impact.

Awards & Promotions

Trophy & Awards Fabrication

Coloured cast acrylic (especially reds, blues, and greens) is used by trophy manufacturers for laser-cut award bases, coloured name bars, and recognition products. Laser engraving on coloured acrylic reveals the lighter sub-surface for contrast.

Architecture & Interior Design

Architectural Feature Panels

Interior designers and architectural fabricators use coloured acrylic panels for feature walls, reception area colour blocks, and decorative partition inserts. The 4.3mm and 5.5mm thicknesses provide enough rigidity for panel framing.

How to Fabricate Coloured Acrylic

  1. Select Colour Code & Thickness

Choose your colour code from the seven available families. For most laser-cut applications, 2.8mm is the standard. For display structures or architectural panels needing more rigidity, use 4.3mm or 5.5mm. Keep masking on during all fabrication steps.

  2. Laser Cut

Coloured cast acrylic laser-cuts cleanly on CO₂ lasers - the same settings as clear or white cast acrylic. Speed and power will vary by thickness. The laser produces polished edges on most colour codes. Fluorescent 9000-series codes may show slightly different edge characteristics - run a test cut first.

  3. CNC Route or Score-and-Snap

For straight cuts, score-and-snap is effective for 2.8mm and 4.3mm sheets. For routed shapes, use a single-flute upcut spiral carbide bit at moderate feed rate. Coloured acrylic chips at cut edges if the bit is dull - always use sharp tooling.

  4. Engrave (optional)

Laser engraving on coloured acrylic reveals the lighter sub-surface beneath the pigmented layer, creating contrast. Useful for text, logos, and decorative inlay effects on award plaques and signage. Test depth settings - too shallow = faint contrast; too deep = wide kerf.

  5. Bond & Finish

Use thin solvent cement (Weld-On 4) for clear, invisible joints. For colour-matched assemblies, pre-fit pieces dry before applying solvent - the joint is permanent once solvent is applied. Buff surfaces with a plastic polish to remove minor surface marks before final installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the 9000-series colour codes like 9092 and 9095?

The 9000-series colour codes (such as 9092 Blue, 9093 Green, 9095 Pink, 9097 Yellow) are fluorescent or special-effect variants within each colour family. They have an enhanced brightness and vibrancy compared to standard colour codes, often used in high-visibility signage, safety displays, and creative design applications. These are priced slightly higher than the standard colour codes in the same family.

Can I match a specific Pantone colour with coloured acrylic?

FIDAR System stocks a defined range of colour codes - we do not offer custom colour matching or Pantone-specific tinting. However, the range of over 20 colour codes across seven colour families covers most common signage and display colour requirements. Contact us to discuss which stock code is closest to your specification.

Are coloured acrylic sheets suitable for outdoor signage?

Coloured cast acrylic has moderate outdoor UV resistance. Standard colours will maintain reasonable vibrancy for short-to-medium outdoor use, but may fade over extended periods of direct sun exposure without UV-protective coating. For long-term outdoor signage, consider using UV-resistant inks or coatings, or discuss UV-stabilized acrylic options with our team.

What thicknesses are coloured acrylic sheets available in?

FIDAR System stocks coloured acrylic in three standard thicknesses: 2.8mm (~1/8"), 4.3mm (~3/16"), and 5.5mm (~1/4") on 4×8 ft sheets. Some colour codes (9000-series) are available in 2.8mm and 5.5mm only.

Can coloured acrylic be thermoformed or bent?

Yes. Coloured cast acrylic can be thermoformed using a strip heater or oven, the same as clear cast acrylic. The material becomes pliable between approximately 140°C and 180°C and holds its shape once cooled. Note that some pigments may show slight colour variation at the bend line if overheated - always run a test piece first.
