Fabrication Notes

The matte surface of all M-suffix codes is sensitive to abrasion. Keep masking on until fabrication is complete. Laser-cutting and routing produce clean, crisp results. The matte finish can be polished locally if needed, but the factory-finished matte appearance is the defining feature of this range.

Retail & Visual Merchandising

Retail Window Displays & Visual Merchandising

Pastel matte acrylic is increasingly used by fashion retailers, lifestyle brands, and cosmetics companies for window display installations and in-store visual merchandising. The soft, desaturated tones photograph well and create a contemporary aesthetic that resonates with current retail design trends.

Events & Photography

Event Backdrops & Photography Props

Event designers and product photographers use pastel acrylic sheets as backdrops, prop panels, and table surfaces for brand activations, pop-up events, and commercial product photography - the matte finish eliminates unwanted reflections in camera.

Interior Design

Interior Design Feature Elements

Interior designers use pastel acrylic panels for decorative wall features, cabinet inserts, and backlit partition panels where a soft, contemporary colour palette is specified. The 3mm matte sheets can be mounted directly onto walls or set into frames.

Custom Fabrication & Art

Laser-Cut Decorative Panels

Makers, custom fabricators, and design studios use pastel acrylic for laser-cut decorative elements - room divider screens, ornamental panels, branded display props, and artistic installations where the pastel matte surface adds a premium hand-crafted feel.

Education & Healthcare

Children's & Educational Environments

Architects specifying children's spaces, learning centres, and pediatric healthcare environments use soft pastel acrylic panels for wall accents, partition inserts, and sensory room features - the muted, non-glare tones create a calm and welcoming atmosphere.

Cosmetics & Personal Care

Cosmetics & Beauty Brand Fixtures

Beauty brands and cosmetics retailers use pastel matte acrylic for display risers, counter fixtures, and product shelving - particularly blush, pink, and lavender tones that align with brand aesthetics and create a premium, clean presentation.

How to Fabricate Pastel Acrylic Sheets

1

Keep Masking On

The matte finish on pastel acrylic shows abrasion and handling marks easily. Keep protective masking on both sides through all cutting and routing steps - only remove at time of final installation. Handle sheets with clean cotton gloves.

2

Score or Laser Cut

For straight cuts, score deeply along a metal straightedge and snap cleanly. For shaped cuts, a CO₂ laser at settings appropriate for 3mm cast acrylic produces clean edges. Test on a scrap piece first - the matte surface may show slightly different edge characteristics than standard gloss acrylic.

3

Sand Edges Smooth

Lightly sand cut edges with 220-grit sandpaper to remove any burrs. Do not flame-polish - heat near the matte surface can locally alter the finish. For a refined edge, wet-sand to 400-grit and leave as a satin edge, consistent with the matte face finish.

4

Install & Clean

Remove masking immediately before final installation only. Clean the surface with a soft microfibre cloth dampened with water - no solvents, abrasive cleaners, or rough cloths. Fingerprints are less visible on the matte surface than on gloss, but still visible - clean with care.

Currently, FIDAR System stocks pastel acrylic in 3mm only on 4×8 ft sheets. All nine colour codes are available in this single thickness. For applications requiring a different thickness in a similar soft-tone colour, the standard coloured acrylic range may offer alternatives.

Yes. Pastel cast acrylic cuts cleanly with a CO2 laser and routes well with standard tooling. The matte surface responds similarly to standard cast acrylic - producing clean-edged cuts. Note that the matte finish may show heat marks at cut edges on some laser settings; always run a test cut first.

Pastel acrylic sheets carry a premium over standard coloured codes primarily because they are a specialty matte-finish cast product and are all new arrivals with lower initial stock volumes. The matte surface treatment requires additional manufacturing steps compared to standard gloss-finish acrylic.

Matte acrylic surfaces are more susceptible to visible scratches than gloss surfaces because fine scratches are more noticeable on a matte finish. Keep protective masking on at all times during handling and fabrication, and only remove it at installation.

The appearance of pastel acrylic changes subtly between warm (incandescent/halogen) and cool (daylight/LED) lighting. Under warm light, pastel tones appear slightly more golden; under cool white light, they appear closer to the sample card colour. We recommend reviewing physical samples under your intended lighting conditions before committing to a large order.

Yes - FIDAR System can provide small cut samples of in-stock pastel acrylic colour codes for specification and approval. Contact our North York office to request samples for your project.

Pastel acrylic sheets are fully opaque - they do not transmit light. They are not suitable for backlit LED light box applications where the panel needs to let light through. For backlit applications, the white translucent codes (7508, 7508M) from the white acrylic range are the correct choice.
