Alcosheet ACM panels: 8 finishes on the rack, 35 on the chart.

Alcosheet is the aluminum composite panel we put our own name on. The eight 3 mm finishes we sell every day sit on the rack in North York, priced by the sheet and cut on our own router. Everything else on this page, from PVDF facade colours to 2000 mm wide sheets and fire resistant cores, is made to order and quoted.

0:00Alcosheet

Three millimetres. Two skins of aluminum, a plastic core between them, and a painted face. This is Alcosheet, FIDAR System's own brand of aluminum composite panel, stocked at our warehouse in North York, Toronto. Here is what is inside the sheet, what is on the rack today, and what can be made to order for your project.

0:25Inside the panel

Take the panel apart, and the brochure's section drawing shows nine layers. On top, a protective film. Then the paint, a ground coat, an oxidation film, and the first aluminum alloy skin. In the middle, the plastic core. Then the second aluminum skin, with its own oxidation film and ground coat underneath. The brochure draws that top coat as PVDF. The painted sheets we stock are polyester coated, and the data sheet puts that coat at one layer of at least 16 µm. Each aluminum skin is 0.20 to 0.30 mm, and the whole panel is 3 mm, ±0.2 mm. The data sheet gives about 3.8 to 4.6 kg/m². A 4×8 ft sheet from our rack weighed about 10.6 kg: about 3.6 kg/m², just under that range.

1:21In stock in Toronto

On the rack: eight finishes, all 3 mm, all 4×8 ft, and every one priced in our online shop. Five sheets have a matt white face, chart code AC-FI M007, with a back in matt white, gloss white, metallic silver, brushed silver or pastel green. Two sheets have a black face, code AC-FI 24, backed in gloss black or sea blue. And one is mirror silver, code AC-FI JM01.

1:52The colour chart

Everything else is made to order. The Alcosheet colour chart carries 35 codes. Metallics, from bright silver through gold and copper to black. Whites, neutrals and black. Reds, orange and blues. Gloss colours and a matt white. Two wood veneers, brushed silver, brushed gold, and a mirror. Need a colour that is not on the chart? It can be made to a RAL number, or customised to your requirements, such as a match to your sample. Made to order colours are quoted, not sold off the shelf. Send us the code, the size and the quantity, and we come back with a price and a lead time.

2:35Eight series

The brochure lists eight product series. PVDF coated. PET coated. Fire resistant core. Mirror. Brushed. Granite and wood. Chameleon. And nano. For an outside wall that has to hold its colour, PVDF is the coating to ask about. The sheets on our rack have the standard plastic core. For a fire resistant core, ask for the test report on that exact build, and have your designer check it against the building code.

3:07Sizes

Sizes. The stock sheet is 1220 × 2440 mm: 4×8 ft. Made to order, the brochure lists thicknesses from 1 to 6 mm, widths of 1220, 1250, 1500 and 2000 mm, and lengths up to 8000 mm. The 3 mm data sheet lists standard widths only up to 1500 mm, so we confirm 2000 mm for your thickness when we quote.

3:36Technical data

Now the data sheet for the 3 mm polyester panel. Outdoor temperature resistance: -40 to +60 °C. Heat deformation: above 85 °C. Pencil hardness H or harder. A 2T bend with no cracking. And no cracking under a 30 kg·cm impact. Two hours in water at 98 °C, and the coating does not pick off. 24 hours in 2% hydrochloric acid, or in 2% sodium hydroxide: no change. And no change after 200 cycles of the solvent test. Length is held to ±3 mm, and width to ±2 mm. The diagonal is within 3 mm, edges run straight to 1 mm per metre, and warpage stays within 5 mm per metre.

4:28Bending

It bends. The minimum bending radius is 500 mm, so a sheet can be curved round a column a metre or more across. For a sharp corner, rout a groove through the core on the back, and fold it. That is how returns and boxed corners are made.

4:44Handling and install

Every sheet carries arrows printed on its film. Hang every panel with its arrows pointing the same way. Turn one round, and a metallic or brushed face can read a shade different from its neighbour. Peel the film within 45 days of installation. And install to the relevant national curtain wall standard and the installation instructions. In Canada, that means your cladding system's details and the building code.

In stock

Polyester (PE) coated

The data sheet's coating: one coat of at least 16 µm, H pencil hardness or harder, 2T bend without cracking, no change after 24 hours in 2% acid or alkali. The right panel for signs, fascia, displays and interiors.

Made to order

PVDF coated

The coating to ask for on a facade that has to keep its colour in full sun for many years. Quoted with the mill's PVDF data sheet. Do not confuse “PE” here, which means polyester paint, with a PE (polyethylene) core.

The full range

Eight Alcosheet series, quoted to your job

Beyond the stocked polyester sheet, Alcosheet is made in eight series. None of them is held in stock; each is made to order in the colour, thickness and size you need.

01

PVDF coated

The coating for outside walls

A fluoropolymer paint system, the kind facades are normally specified in because it holds colour and gloss in sunlight far longer than polyester. The brochure's layer drawing shows it as the top coat over a primer and a conversion coat.

02

PET coated

A film face instead of a paint

A polyester film laminated over the aluminum instead of a liquid coat. Usually chosen for interiors, furniture and display work where a hard, even gloss matters.

03

Fire resistant core

A mineral filled core for rated walls

The same aluminum skins over a fire resistant core in place of plain polyethylene. Ask for the test report for the exact build, and have your designer confirm it against the building code before it is specified.

04

Mirror

A polished, reflective face

Mirror Silver (AC-FI JM01) is on our rack in 3 mm, 4×8 ft. Other sizes and thicknesses are made to order.

05

Brushed

A grained metal look

Brushed Silver (AC-FI LS01) and Brushed Gold (AC-FI LS02) on the chart. Brushed faces have a grain direction, so every panel on a wall goes up with its arrow the same way.

06

Granite and wood

Printed stone and timber

Patterned coatings that read as stone or wood veneer. Oak Veneer (AC-FI WD01) and Walnut Veneer (AC-FI WD02) are on the chart; stone patterns are quoted from samples.

Reading the table. Values and test references are reproduced from the data sheet without correction. The sound attenuation figure is printed without a unit, so treat it as indicative and ask for the test report before it goes into an acoustic or structural calculation. We do not certify fire or structural performance; that belongs to your designer and the building code.

Printed on every carton

Three rules for installing Alcosheet

These are on the Alcosheet film and carton, and they are the ones people skip. Two of them decide whether a finished wall looks like one colour.

Follow the arrows

Every sheet carries an arrow on its film. Hang every panel on a wall with the arrows pointing the same way. Metallic, brushed and pearl faces can look a shade different when one panel is turned round.

Film off within 45 days

Peel the protective film within 45 days of installation. Left longer in sun and heat, the adhesive can bond to the paint and the film tears instead of lifting.

Install to the national standard

The label asks for installation to the relevant national curtain wall standard and the system maker's instructions. In Canada that means the cladding system's details and the building code, signed off by the project's designer.

Bending: the data sheet's minimum radius is 500 mm, so gentle curves can be rolled. Sharp folds need a V or U groove routed in the back first. The ACM fabrication guide covers routing, folding and fixing, and we design and install cladding ourselves through our metal cladding team.

Questions

Alcosheet questions we get asked

What is Alcosheet?

Alcosheet is FIDAR System's own brand of aluminum composite panel. The panels are made to our order, printed with the Alcosheet name on the film and the carton, and held in stock at our warehouse in North York, Toronto. Eight 3 mm finishes are on the rack today; the other colours, thicknesses and sizes on this page are made to order and quoted.

Which Alcosheet colours are in stock in Toronto?

Eight finishes in 3 mm, 4×8 ft: White Matte both sides, White Matte with White Gloss, Metallic Silver, Pastel Green or Brushed Silver backs, Black Matte with a Black Gloss or Sea Blue back, and Mirror Silver. On the chart, the white face is AC-FI M007, the black face is AC-FI 24 and the mirror is AC-FI JM01. Everything else on the chart is quoted.

Can I order an Alcosheet colour that is not in stock?

Yes. Any code on the chart, a RAL colour or a colour matched to your sample can be made to order. Send the code, the size and the quantity through the form and we come back with a price and a lead time. Colours we do not hold are not sold off the shelf, so a quote comes first.

What sizes and thicknesses can Alcosheet be made in?

Stock is 3 mm in 4×8 ft (1220 × 2440 mm). To order, the brochure lists thicknesses from 1 to 6 mm, widths of 1220, 1250, 1500 and 2000 mm, and lengths up to 8000 mm. The 3 mm data sheet gives 1220, 1250 and 1500 mm as its standard widths, so ask about 2000 mm for the exact thickness you need.

Is the stocked Alcosheet panel PVDF or polyester coated?

Polyester. The 3 mm data sheet covers the polyester coating: one coat of at least 16 µm, H pencil hardness or harder, and a 2T bend without cracking. PVDF is made to order, and it is the coating to ask for on an outside wall that has to hold its colour for many years.

How cold can Alcosheet go?

The data sheet gives an outdoor temperature resistance of -40 to +60 °C under ASTM D1654, and a heat deformation temperature above 85 °C under ASTM D648. Aluminum still grows and shrinks with temperature, so exterior panels need slotted fixings and open joints to move.

Can Alcosheet be bent without routing a groove?

Yes, to a gentle curve. The data sheet gives a minimum bending radius of 500 mm under ASTM D790, so a 3 mm sheet can be rolled round a column wider than a metre. For a sharp corner, rout a V or U groove through the core on the back and fold it; that is how returns and boxed corners are made.

Does Alcosheet come with test reports or certificates?

Ask us. The technical data on this page is the mill's published data for the 3 mm polyester panel. Test reports and certificates for a specific product or build are sent on request, and a fire resistant core build needs its own report before it goes on a rated wall.

Have a colour code, a drawing or a cut list?

Send it over and we will come back with a price, or the one question we need answered first.
