FIDAR System's P95 frosted acrylic is a cast PMMA sheet with a uniform matte finish on one side, providing approximately 70% light transmission while effectively diffusing and scattering light. The P95 designation refers to the frosting level — it blocks direct vision while still allowing light to pass through evenly.

Why P95 Frosted Acrylic?

  • Uniform, consistent frosting — no blotchy or uneven texture
  • One smooth side, one matte-frosted side
  • Excellent light diffusion for LED panel applications
  • Privacy without complete opacity — maintains a bright, airy feel
  • Machines, cuts, and laser-engraves like standard cast acrylic

Applications

  • Office partition panels and room dividers
  • LED light diffuser panels (signage and architectural)
  • Shower screens and bathroom privacy panels
  • Cabinet door inserts
  • Frosted window glazing
  • Photography diffusion panels

Fabrication Notes

P95 acrylic cuts cleanly with a laser or router. When laser-cutting, the frosted side may show slightly different edge characteristics than the smooth side — always run a test cut first. Keep masking on the frosted surface until the part is complete to avoid scratching.

Commercial Interiors

Office Partition & Privacy Panels

P95 frosted acrylic is the material of choice for office partitions where visual privacy is needed without blocking natural light. The 70% light transmission keeps spaces bright while preventing direct line-of-sight. Commonly used in open-plan offices, boardroom dividers, and reception area screens.

Signage & Lighting

LED Light Diffuser Panels

The uniform matte-frosted surface of P95 acrylic is an effective LED diffuser for architectural lighting panels, backlit signs, and illuminated display cases. It scatters LED point sources evenly across the panel face, eliminating visible hotspots.

Residential & Commercial Fit-out

Shower Screens & Bathroom Privacy

P95 acrylic is used as a lighter, easier-to-install alternative to frosted glass for shower screens, bathroom privacy panels, and wet-room partitions. The material is non-porous and easy to clean.

Furniture & Cabinet Making

Cabinet Door Inserts

The 2.8mm thickness is commonly used as a frosted insert for kitchen cabinet doors, retail display cabinetry, and office storage units - providing a semi-translucent front panel that softens the visual of interior contents.

Photography & Film

Photography Diffusion Panels

Photography studios and product photographers use frosted acrylic sheets as large-format diffusion panels for softboxes and light tents - creating even, shadow-free lighting on subjects.

How to Fabricate P95 Frosted Acrylic Sheets

1

Identify the Frosted Side

P95 acrylic has one smooth gloss side and one matte-frosted side. Mark the frosted side on the masking film before cutting. For most applications, keep the frosted side protected with masking throughout fabrication and only expose it at installation.

2

Score or Cut

For straight cuts on 2.8mm, score deeply and snap cleanly. For 4.3mm and 5.5mm, use a table saw with a fine-tooth blade or a CO₂ laser. When laser-cutting, the frosted side may char slightly differently than the smooth side - always test settings on a scrap piece.

3

Route Profiles

P95 acrylic routes like standard cast acrylic. Use a single-flute upcut spiral bit at moderate feed rate. For polished edge profiles on partitions, flame-polish the cut edge with a propane torch, held at 45° and moved smoothly - this polishes the edge to near-glass clarity.

4

Drill Mounting Holes

Use acrylic drill bits at slow speed with a backer board. For partition panel installations, oversize the hole slightly to allow for thermal expansion, and use shoulder washers to prevent point-load cracking around fasteners.

5

Bond & Install

For partition assemblies, solvent-bond joints using Weld-On 4 (capillary grade). The frosted surface can be solvent-bonded - joint lines are nearly invisible. For wall-mounted panels, use foam mounting tape or silicone structural glazing compound rather than mechanical fasteners through the face.

P95 is a colour code designation used by the manufacturer to identify a specific frosting level and appearance. P95-000M is a cast PMMA sheet with a uniform matte-frosted surface on one side and a smooth gloss surface on the other. The frosting provides approximately 70% light transmission while scattering and diffusing the light that passes through it.

Yes - P95 frosted acrylic is widely used as a diffuser face for LED light panels and backlit signage. The matte-frosted surface spreads LED point light sources evenly, eliminating the bright spots visible through clear or semi-clear panels. For most LED panel applications, the 4.3mm thickness provides the right balance of diffusion and rigidity.

P95 acrylic is semi-translucent - it allows approximately 70% of light to pass through, but it scatters the light, so objects and people on the other side appear as shadows rather than clear images. It is privacy-grade: suitable for blocking direct vision while maintaining a bright, airy appearance.

P95 frosted acrylic and LED diffused polycarbonate both diffuse light, but they are different materials for different applications. P95 is a cast acrylic (PMMA) with a surface-frosted finish - good for partition panels, privacy screens, and decorative inserts. LED diffused polycarbonate is engineered specifically for LED signage faces and luminaire applications, with a higher impact resistance and a broader operating temperature range. For general architectural and display use, frosted acrylic is typically preferred; for high-impact or outdoor LED signage, LED diffused polycarbonate is the better choice.

FIDAR System stocks P95 frosted acrylic in three standard thicknesses (2.8mm, 4.3mm, 5.5mm) on 4×8 ft sheets. Cut-to-size service is available - contact us for custom dimensions and pricing.
