HEXABEN honeycomb composite panel as backlit feature wall in a museum gallery

The HEXABEN Clear honeycomb composite panel is a structural sandwich panel combining a hexagonal honeycomb core with clear acrylic or polycarbonate face sheets. The result is an exceptionally lightweight panel with high rigidity — ideal for large-format applications where weight matters.

Key Properties

  • Extremely high stiffness-to-weight ratio vs. solid sheet
  • Large-format 3.3×10 ft panels reduce seam lines in installations
  • Clear / translucent appearance allows backlighting
  • 19mm total thickness provides structural strength without heavy weight

Applications

  • Large-format backlit signage and light walls
  • Trade show display structures
  • Architectural ceiling and partition panels
  • Museum and gallery display systems
  • Lightweight structural display framing

Ordering Note

HEXABEN panels are a specialty item. Contact FIDAR System for lead times and freight quotation before placing large orders. Minimum order quantities may apply.

Architecture & Interior Design

Large-Format Backlit Light Walls

HEXABEN Clear honeycomb panels are used in large-format backlit light wall installations - architectural feature walls, branded experience zones, and illuminated architectural elements where a structural panel that allows light transmission is required.

Museums & Exhibitions

Museum & Gallery Display Systems

The large panel size (3.3×10 ft) and lightweight construction make HEXABEN panels practical for museum display systems, gallery walls, and architectural exhibit structures where minimal visual seams and light weight are design requirements.

Events & Exhibitions

Trade Show & Exhibition Structures

High-end trade show display builders use honeycomb composite panels for structural exhibition walls and large-format display frames where a premium, engineered appearance combined with manageable installation weight is required.

Architecture & Construction

Architectural Ceiling Tiles & Canopies

The low weight-per-square-foot of HEXABEN panels makes them suitable for suspended ceiling tile systems, canopy structures, and overhead architectural elements where reducing dead load on the support structure is a requirement.

Retail & Hospitality

Retail Brand Experience Zones

High-end retail and hospitality designers use HEXABEN Clear panels as dramatic translucent partition elements, feature lighting panels, and signature design moments - leveraging the visible honeycomb structure as an intentional aesthetic detail.

How to Fabricate Honeycomb Composite Panels

1

Plan Your Layout

Measure the installation space carefully. At 3.3×10 ft, HEXABEN panels are large - plan seam lines, fastening points, and support structure before cutting. The large format reduces visible seams, so maximize panel use to minimize cuts.

2

Score & Cut

Use a circular saw with a fine-tooth (80T+) blade or a CNC router. Support the full panel on a flat surface before cutting - unsupported panels can flex and bind the blade. Cut slowly with steady feed; the honeycomb core compresses if pushed too hard.

3

Seal Cut Edges

Exposed cut edges reveal the honeycomb core. For aesthetic and moisture-protection reasons, seal edges with aluminium edge trim, PVC edge banding, or a compatible structural adhesive sealant. Sealed edges also add rigidity to the panel section.

4

Mount & Fasten

HEXABEN panels are typically mounted using perimeter framing (aluminium extrusion, timber battens) or concealed fasteners through the face sheet into a support structure. Avoid point loads - distribute fastener load across the face sheet with wide washers or backing plates.

5

Integrate Lighting (if backlit)

For backlit light wall applications, position LED strip lighting 80–120mm behind the panel to allow even light diffusion across the translucent honeycomb surface. Test light uniformity before final installation.

HEXABEN Clear is a structural composite panel consisting of a hexagonal honeycomb core sandwiched between clear or translucent face sheets. The honeycomb structure gives the panel extremely high stiffness relative to its weight - allowing large-format, rigid panels to be built at a fraction of the weight of solid sheet materials. The clear version allows backlighting and light transmission.

HEXABEN panels are a specialty product. Contact FIDAR System directly before placing an order to confirm availability, lead time, and minimum order requirements. Freight shipping is required for these large-format panels.

HEXABEN Clear panels are available in 3.3×10 ft sheets, 19mm (~3/4") thickness. The large panel size reduces the number of seams in large-format installations.

HEXABEN panels can be cut with a circular saw (fine-tooth blade), jigsaw, or CNC router. The key challenge is the sandwich construction - cut slowly to avoid delaminating the face sheets from the honeycomb core. Use sharp blades, minimal vibration, and support the panel fully during cutting. Edge finishing typically involves covering cut edges with aluminium edge trim or applying a compatible sealant to protect the honeycomb interior.

The suitability of HEXABEN panels for exterior use depends on the specific face sheet material (acrylic vs. polycarbonate) and how the edges are sealed. Polycarbonate-faced versions offer better UV and weather resistance. Contact FIDAR System to confirm the exact specification before specifying for exterior applications - exposed cut edges must be sealed to prevent moisture ingress into the honeycomb core.

HEXABEN Clear panels are priced at $2,700.00 CAD per 3.3×10 ft sheet. The specialty engineering and large format size reflects the premium over standard sheet materials. For large-volume pricing or project quotations, contact FIDAR System directly.
