About Composites

The composites category at FIDAR System covers three distinct product types that share the common characteristic of being engineered multi-layer materials rather than single-material solid sheets. Each serves different applications and industries.

ACM panels (aluminum composite material) are the most widely used product in this category. They consist of two thin aluminum face sheets bonded to a polyethylene core, producing a rigid, lightweight flat panel available in 8 face/back colour combinations. ACM is the standard material for exterior building cladding, commercial signage substrates, and retail storefront fascias across Canada.

HEXABEN Clear honeycomb composite panels are a specialty structural product - a hexagonal honeycomb core sandwiched between clear face sheets. The honeycomb structure provides exceptional stiffness relative to panel weight, making it suitable for large-format structural display panels and architectural light wall installations.

Flexible magnetic rolls are a rubber magnet base bonded to a printable white vinyl face - available in matte and gloss finishes and two thickness gauges. Used for vehicle door magnets, promotional signage, and trade show graphics.

ACM vs. PVC for Signage

Both ACM panels and PVC foam sheets are used as sign substrates. ACM has an aluminum face that is more durable, more rigid, and provides a premium finish - it is preferred for exterior signage, building facades, and premium interior applications. PVC foam is lighter, lower cost, and accepts direct printing more easily - better suited for indoor flat-cut signs, exhibition panels, and display mounting where weight and cost matter most.

Applications & Use Cases

Architecture & Construction

Building Cladding & Facades

ACM panels are a standard exterior cladding material for commercial buildings - lightweight, weather-resistant, and available in a range of finishes including matte, gloss, metallic, mirror, and brushed.

Signage & Graphics

Flat-Cut Sign Panels

White matte ACM (WM+WM, WM+WG) is the professional sign substrate for flat-cut building signs, outdoor directional signs, and premium corporate signage where a metal-face appearance is specified.

Vehicle Graphics

Vehicle Door Magnets

0.030" gloss magnetic roll is the standard material for vehicle door magnets - removable advertising applied to car, van, and truck doors.

Architecture & Interior Design

Large-Format Backlit Walls

HEXABEN Clear honeycomb panels are used for large-format backlit feature wall installations - architectural light walls, branded experience zones, and museum display structures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can ACM panels be cut with a laser?

No. ACM panels cannot be laser-cut because the aluminum face sheets reflect the CO2 laser beam, potentially damaging the laser optics. Use a circular saw with a carbide blade, CNC router, or shear for ACM.

What ACM combinations are available at FIDAR System?

FIDAR System stocks 8 ACM face/back combinations: White Matte/White Matte, White Matte/White Gloss, White Matte/Metallic Silver, White Matte/Pastel Green, White Matte/Brushed Silver, Black Matte/Black Gloss, Black Matte/Sea Blue, and Mirror Silver - all 3mm, 4×8 ft.

Are ACM panels suitable for outdoor use in Canada?

Yes. ACM panels are a widely used exterior cladding material and are engineered for outdoor exposure. The painted aluminum face is weather-resistant. For occupied building facades, consult local building code requirements for cladding material fire ratings.
